OLD GOA
Showing a way to use one’s talent to earn money, former Agassaim panch Vinay Kerkar has prepared homemade Akash Kandils which have been put up for sale at the Agassaim market.
Speaking to The Goan, Kerkar said he has invested money to make Akash Kandils and he is reaping benefits as many people are buying his Akash Kandils.“I have now applied with the Agassaim panchayat for the ‘Mudra’ scheme of the Central government under which Rs 50,000 is provided to those undertaking small businesses like myself,” said Kerkar, while adding that he would also prepare homemade Christmas stars. Agassaim Sarpanch Xavier Gracias said traditional items are not prepared these days. “So, I encouraged Kerkar to make Akash Kandils in the same traditional way so that the tradition is kept alive. It is not possible for everybody to get jobs and some will have to earn through self-employment,” Gracias said.
