Bringing the pathetic conditions of roads, especially highways, to the notice of Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who is on the State visit currently, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Ralph De Souza has appealed to the minister to look into the issue and resolve it speedily.
In his letter to Nitin Gadkari, the GCCI president has stated that the general public in Goa is facing problems due to the poor construction of National Highways in the State. “Currently, there are two sections of NH66 being widened - Patradevi to Porvorim in North Goa and Panaji to Canacona in South Goa. These are four-lane concrete roads, major parts of which have already been completed and are now being thrown open for traffic in a piecemeal manner. The issues with these newly constructed cement concrete highway roads are mostly to do with surface quality, levelling and banking and drainage,” points out GCCI president.
Besides the above, there is no care to ensure appropriate signages with illumination for night visibility at diversion points where construction works are going on which has led to many accidents, some of them fatal, in the State of Goa, claims the letter, further.
“The surface quality is below par and the RMC surface at several places is already showing signs of pitting. Several portions have exposed aggregate even before the road is ready to be opened for public use. Doubts arise as to the mix/laying / curing of the slabs,” says Ralph.
