MARGAO: Fr. Agnel YC Paroda advanced into the semi-finals of the 25th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter village football tournament by defeating Sporting Club of Davorlim via a tie-breaker with a score of 8-7. The match, organised by Sirlim Sports Club and held at the Chinchinim Church ground.
In the 12th minute, Paroda's Clifton Fernandes' shot hit the side post. Davorlim took the lead in the 16th minute through Milton Colaco. Paroda's Sanju Trikonni received a yellow card in the 18th minute for deliberately pulling an opponent. Selton Fernandes equalised for Paroda with a goal from a well-measured cross by Melson. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Paroda adjusted their game plan, but Davorlim's goalkeeper Avin made several fine saves, keeping the score level. The match ended 1-1, leading to a tie-breaker.
In the tie-breaker, Fr Agnel YC Paroda's successful penalty takers were Kachan, Omkar, Drenzil, Salvin, Melvino, Pravesh, and Selton while Wilman, Aren, Edmund, Mickey, Francisco, and Peidade successfully converted for Davorlim, but Sanju's kick was saved by Paroda's keeper Pravesh, sealing the victory for Fr Agnel YC.
