The state-level function for Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (ICDF) was conducted at the Chicalim Sub District Hospital (SDH) on Monday morning.State Immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar and other officials were present at the event. Medical Superintendent and Health Officer of Chicalim SDH Dr Anil Umbraskar said the programme was celebrated annually especially during monsoons.
"This programme is to create awareness on easy methods to tackle diarrhoea so that people can begin immediate treatment," said Dr Umbraskar. Dr Rashmi Borkar, consultant of DHS. said competitions like poster making, rangoli, etc. were held as part of awareness on diarrhoea. "We provide ORS and zinc to children below 5 years during this programme for a period of 15 days when the programme is carried out across the country. We create awareness to tackle misconception about diarrhoea and we also have a ORS corner where we create awareness to prepare ORS in case children get diarrhoea. We also explain the importance of hygiene and washing of hands to prevent diarrhoea for children," said Borkar.
