Accusing the BJP of being insensitive to the plight of people badly hit by rising onion prices, the Valpoi Mahila Congress sold onions at subsidised rates in Valpoi town.
A number of customers were seen purchasing onions from the Valpoi Mahila Congress at the old municipal area.
“The Mahila Congress has provide some relief to people by selling onions at subsidised rates,” said Valpoi Mahila Congress President Roshan Desai.
“There are many poor people in Sattari taluka who cannot afford to buy onions at the current rates and hence, onions were made available at subsidised rates by the Women’s Congress,” said Desai.
Mahila Congress leader Pratima Coutinho accused the government of fooling the people by providing only 1 kg of onions per ration card.
“The government should provide onions at very low rates at government horticulture outlets,” said Coutinho.
Other Mahila leaders present included Usha Mest, Lalan Parsekar, Roshni D’Silva, Asifa Sheikh, Priyanka Sathe and Shobha Nene.
