Geeta Kavlekar was elected unopposed as Merces sarpanch at a special meeting in the panchayat on Tuesday.
Kavlekar was declared elected sarpanch as she was the lone candidate to file nomination for the top post.
The post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Rufina Quadros stepped down recently.
Ten of the 11 panchas remained present for the election. They were Geeta Kavlekar, deputy sarpanch Armstrong Braganza, Sunita Palyekar, Sushant Govekar, Pranita Kalangutkar, Venancio Gonsalves, Duarte Fernandes, Rufina Quadros, Mukesh Shirgaonkar and Swapnil Amonkar. Swapnil Nagesh was the presiding officer.
