After a delay of nearly four years Mormugao Municipal Councilhas finally decided to make use of the funds allotted to MMC to modernize itsSolid Waste Treatment Plant.
Presently the site has been converted into a dump yard.
The technical section of the council has compiled acompetitive statement, after receiving final bid from three agencies “ GarbageDisposal Management & Technology from Curchorem, Goa, Byucksan India PvtLtd, New Delhi and Center for Environment and Development, Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala.
The Municipal Engineer informed that Garbage DisposalManagement & Technology from Curchorem, is the lowest bidder, whose quoteis 4.15 per cent of the actual cost of project.
MMC in its special council meeting on September 27 hasformed a committee to shortlist consultant for the proposed upgradation ofMormugao sold waste treatment plant at Headland, Sada. The committee is headedby councilor Shekhar Khadapkar and includes other members. The other members inthe committee are councilors Sharad Chopdekar and Manesh Arolkar, Mormugao MLAMilind Naik and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida along with Municipal Engineer andChief Officer. A local NGO and Goa Foundation are also part of the committee.
MMC had proposed to modernize the plant four years ago. Thesum of Rs 3.76 crore allotted for modernization of the plant has been lyingwith urban development ministry for almost a year now.
The modernization of plant has been delayed mainly becauseof political expediency, lethargic council staff and non-performance of previousconsultant, Real Alliance Enviro Solution, whose contract was terminated by thecouncil four months ago.
