MARGAO
A shareholder of the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) Dionisio Sardinha called on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday and handed over a memorandum highlighting the plight of the bank depositors.
The Chief Minister has promised to look into the contents of the memorandum.
The shareholders have launched a campaign to hand over memorandums to all the MLAs, Ministers and the Chief Minister highlighting the burning issues plaguing the bank and the failure of the authorities to return the money of the depositors.
The campaign is based on a resolution adopted by the shareholders on January 10 to submit memorandums to all the elected representatives highlighting the fate of around 60,000 depositors.
Beleaguered MUCB depositors have been demanding the return of their deposits, fearing they might loose their hard earned money.
While the Reserve bank of India has imposed restrictions on the bank, including the restriction to return the deposits to the depositors, the bank has now come under the scanner of the High court after the Court converted letter written by the depositors into a writ petition.
