In a tragic incident, 28-year-old Agalle footballer Allister Vaz lost his life after going down injured in a melee during a match of We for Fatorda inter-ward football tournament, at Fatorda on Sunday.
The match was 15 minutes old, when Allister was fouled by the opposition players and the referee pulled up the erring players. The game resumed after Allister was administered first aid. However, the player soon collapsed and lay sprawled on the ground. Allister was finally taken to a Fatorda hospital in a car, but was declared dead on arrival, sources said.
Anthony Pango, vice-president of Goa Football Association (South Goa) condoled the death of the youngster, who had helped the association as a volunteer or a stretcher boy during the I-League matches at Nehru stadium, Fatorda. Allister had tied the nuptial knot three months ago.
