Seraulim youth staged a concert centered on the theme “Environment protection and the harmful effects of coal transportation in Goa” at the church grounds on Sunday evening.
The programme was originally scheduled to be staged in the village during Christmas, but was scuttled by the Goa police for want of permission.
The concert, however, became a reality on Sunday evening after the organisers obtained all the required permissions, both from the police and district authorities.
Zepherin Fernandes told The Goan that the programme was organized on Sunday after obtaining the requisite permissions. “Our youth were supposed to stage this concert at Christmas time, but the police had played spoilsport,” Zepherin said.
The skit as well as the slide presentation centred around the harmful effects of coal and double-tracking. The youth also conveyed the message on environment via songs.
Seraulim Panch member Kevin D’Souza said the youth of Seraulim only wanted to stage skits in December, highlighting the issue of coal pollution and damage that would be caused to the environment if the three projects see the light of day, but were stopped by the Goa police.
A large number of Seraulim villagers attended the youth concert by observing social distancing and other Covid norms.
Over 200 Goa police personnel had descended on the Seraulim railway crossing to stop the youth concert scheduled during the Christmas
festivities on grounds that it had no permission from the authorities.
