Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the controversial ordinance seeking amendments to the Goa Municipalities Act will not be brought in the Assembly in the form of a bill.
He, however, said that the government is not averse to suggesting the proposed amendments in a different form in the future.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Kendra at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Sunday, the Chief Minister said the ordinance to bring about the amendments to the Goa Municipalities Act was not bad, barring one or two clauses.
“The government has not withdrawn the ordinance because it was bad. Barring one or two clauses, the ordinance was supposed to take care of certain issues such as rent and transfer of shops, which has not taken place for the last 25 years. Anyway, since the ordinance has been withdrawn, the government will study the issues raised in certain quarters,” he added.
The Chief Minister, however, made it clear that the government will not bring the ordinance in the form of a bill in the ensuing session, but may bring it in a different form in the future.
