PORVORIM: The Health Officer of Porvorim Primary Health Centre Dr Vikas Naik stated that the Central government launched Sparsh Leprosy Awarness Programme on January 30 in memory of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi to create awareness of leprosy disease in the country. Four leprosy patients are being treated at the Primary Health Centre in Porvorim. The disease is transmitted from one person to another through droplets expelled from the infected person's cough or sneeze, said Dr Naik. He was speaking at Salai at the programme organised by Primary Health Centre to create awareness about leprosy among general Public. Dr Ela Sequeira of PHC, nutrition officer Zenha Lobo and sarpanch of Salvador do Mundo Sandeep Salgaonkar were present on the occasion. Dr Ela Siqueira in her talk gave additional information about leprosy and the precautions to be taken to avoid the disease and the treatment to be taken for the same.
