A senior citizen from Sangolda claimed to have been cheated to the tune of Rs 4,14,301 in a mobile phone cyber fraud. According to Saligao police, Inacio Francisco Paulo Fernandes (66) of Morod-Sangolda filed a police complaint stating that an unknown person had sent him an APK file on the pretext of upgrading his mobile.
On opening this file, Fernandes said his mobile phone became unresponsive and only 5% of the screen remained visible. He claimed that during this period, an unknown person without his knowledge or consent carried out five unauthorised transactions from his bank account on different occasions, thereby cheating him and resulting in wrongful loss of Rs 4,14,301 through fraudulent transactions. Further investigation is being done by Saligao Police Sub Inspector Jugal Divkar.
