Nilesh Parwar was on Friday elected unopposed as sarpanch of Thane panchayat in Sattari taluka.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Prajita Gawas and Parwar was the only panch to file his nomination to the post.
At a special meeting in the panchayat office, seven panchas, Nilesh Parwar, Sarita Gaonkar, Lata Gaonkar, Prajita Gawas, Umesh Sawant, Suryakant Gaonkar and Satyawan Gaonkar were present, while Govind Korgaonkar and Vaishali Desai were absent.
Later speaking to reporters, Parwar said he would strive to work towards the overall development of the village and Bahujan Samaj with the support of both legislators in Sattari taluka.
“The previous sarpanchas, Sarita Gaonkar and Prajita Gawas have done a good job in the village. Various schemes will be implemented with the cooperation of all panch members,” said Parwar.
