People from different communities and walks of life in Borim on Sunday paid homage to late Dr Manjunath Dessai, an illustrious son of Borim, who passed away recently.The event was organised by the Parish Pastoral Council of St Francis Xavier Church, Borim, and it was hosted by Agnelo de Borim. Welcoming the people gathered to pay homage to Dr Manjunath, Borim Parish Priest Fr Victor Ferrao quoted the late Konkani stalwart Madhavi Sardessai, ‘Touched by the ocean, he became as big as an ocean.”The Shradanjali began with Fr Ferrao and the main speakers offering floral tributes to Dr Manjunath.
“In dying, Dr Manjunath made headlines in Goan newspapers showing how great he was for the people of Goa,” said Dr Shrish Borkar, a colleague of Manjunath and added that late Dr Manjunath had become a model for every person of the medical profession today. His teacher and relative, Minanath Upadhay, a well-known educationist from Borim said, “Dr Manjunath was a brilliant student and become even more brilliant because he saw God in every sick patient.” He also narrated Dr Manjunath’s brilliant career as a student. Dr Anupama, a cancer specialist while talking about his journey as her patient during his final days described Dr Manjunath as a great human being and a patient patient too.
