Mukesh Ghatwal has been elected unopposed as sarpanch of Velguem panchayat.
He was elected at a special meeting in the panchayat office on Tuesday, which was attended by Deputy Sarpanch Unnati Sahastrabuddhe and Panchas Govind Gaonkar, Kedar Ghadi, Mahesh Gawande, Samanta Kamat and Durgadas Naik.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Mahesh Gawande as sarpanch.
Bhandari Samaj President Amit Ghadi, Sanil Prabhu, Avadhut Dhond and other villagers from Velgem later greeted Ghatwal on his election as sarpanch.
