A woman died after reportedly jumping from the Colvale bridge into the river at around 11.30 am on Tuesday.According to eyewitnesses, the woman appeared disturbed shortly before she allegedly climbed over the railing and jumped into the river. People in the vicinity alerted the authorities following the incident. Mapusa Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The woman’s body was subsequently recovered from the water by the fire personnel.
Her identity was yet to be ascertained at the time of reporting. Police are conducting an inquiry into the incident and are expected to establish the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death. A case of unnatural death is likely to be registered as part of the investigation.
