June 10 is celebrated all over the world by members of Alcoholics Anonymous as the Founders Day as this was the day that Dr Bob, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous had his last alcoholic drink and from then on the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous that is spread today over 180 countries in the world was born in Ohio, Akron, in the United States of America. The fellowship came to some parts of India in 1957 and then was established in Goa in the year 1975. There are now over 60 AA groups spread in different parts of Goa where meetings are held every week available for recovering alcoholics and those who have a desire to stop drinking.
This year this big event will be held as a virtual event in Akron , Maica, a function that actually draws a cowd of over 10,000 recovered alcoholics and their families. The Goa fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous on this Day joins the rest of the World in celebrating solemnly in prayer and meditation with a determination and renewed resolution to be of service with love towards achieving its goal of reaching the suffering alcoholics who have not been shown the way of recovery. Alcoholics Anonymous Inter Group Goa (South) regrets its inability to make it possible for our members to meet together to celebrate this auspicious day due to Covid-19 pandemic but congratulates all the members of Goa fellowship and wishes them a lifetime sobriety and good health and prosperity to their families. They thank the press and electronic media as also the medical fraternity, the Govt of Goa and the clergy who have cooperated with AA. It is due to them that alcoholics have been drawn to AA and have recovered in thousands, the fellowship says.
