Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar on Saturday launched a severe attack on BJP and charged that the party is treating women as a “commodity” and that its leaders have no respect for the dignity of women.
“The culture of BJP of abusing women has now reached every household of their functionaries, with sons of their leaders now attacking and threatening young girls,” stated Chodankar.
He was speaking on the backdrop of the attack on a young girl in Canacona by the son of a BJP leader. Chodankar said that this unfortunate and condemnable incident exposes the high handed culture in BJP.
“The BJP leadership initially tried to protect the accused, but later arrested him after public pressure,” the GPCC president explained adding that the arrest of the accused is just a mere “eyewash”.
Congress has demanded strict action against the accused by filing a charge sheet under strong sections of the law after a thorough and quick investigation.
“We also demand that police protection be given to the victim and her family as local BJP leaders are still threatening them,” Chodankar said.
It may be recalled that Canacona police had arrested the son of BJP Mandal Chief Mahesh Naik, Pratik Naik, 21, a resident of Passal-Ardhofond, Canacona on Thursday for outraging the modesty of a woman, abduction, assault and threatening with dire consequences.
