PANAJI
Despite a palpable rebellion by the saffron cadre in the capital city, neo-BJP MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserratte in seeming bravado boasted of his BJP panel winning "100 percent" of the seats.
He said, the Opposition parties, including the Congress are banking on BJP rebels but that the renegades have lost ground.
"I am thankful that the party has given me the opportunity. I will get 100 percent result.
Congress knows that they don't have the strength so they can't defeat BJP and that is why they are banking on BJP rebels," Monserrate said in fleeting comments after voting ended on Saturday.
The rebels have no ground. They had a name only because of the late Manohar Parrikar," Monserrate added.
One of the BJP rebel candidates, Vishnu Naik, meanwhile said he is representing the true BJP unit of Panaji formed by Manohar Parrikar. He added that the party in its current state with new entrant Monserrate at the helm is not the 'true BJP'.
Furtado too claims his panel winning
PANAJI: Ami Ponnjekars' convenor and former CCP mayor Surendra Furtardo said the majority of the 'silent voting' is in favour of his front.
"We will get seats to form a majority in the CCP," Furtado said.
Meanwhile, Furtado and BJP's Taleigao leader Dattaprasad Naik secured anticipatory bail on Friday in connection with a case booked by the flying squad.
Furtado said a false complaint accusing him of distributing money has been filed while the BJP President and MLA Monserrate were freely campaigning one day prior to elections.
