Denouncing the high handedness of the Karnataka Police towards the Goa team who were part of the joint inspection of the Mhadei water diversion at Kankumbi, Goencho Avaaz Party blamed the State government for the sorry state of affairs.
“What action is the Goa government planning to take against the treatment of our people in this unacceptable and deplorable manner? It is evident that the entire BJP and its State government have zero respect for Goa and Goans,” said Swapnesh Sherlekar, President of Goencho Avaaz Party (GAP).
The WRD officials of the State and noted environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar were allegedly threatened and abused during the joint inspection of the Mhadei water diversion at Kankumbi on Friday.
Sherlekar alleged that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was working under the orders of the Delhi bosses, who were making Goa a sacrificial lamb for Karnataka.
“From the time CM Pramod Sawant came into office two years ago, the Mhadei issue has been mired in a host of controversies due to poor governance and anti-people policies and initiatives,” he said.
He further said that people have not forgotten the shocking revelation of the erstwhile legal counsel Arvind Datur, who alleged that in 2019, he had been directed by the Goa government not to object to Karnataka’s plea to the Supreme Court regarding Mhadei.
“The entire Mhadei issue is testament to the poor governance of our government and its inability to take the required tough stand on issues that are related to our well-being and our very survival,” the President of GAP said.
“Goa has unfortunately paid a heavy price due to the CM’s inability to stand up and protect what is rightfully ours,” he added.
He said in the two years that CM Pramod Sawant has been in office, the State has plunged to its nadir as it is being struck with one catastrophe after another.
“Never has Goa been under such vicious attack or witnessed such turmoil, since our pre-Liberation days. Given that Goa’s future hangs by a thread, CM Pramod Sawant will undoubtedly be relegated in the history books as the most ineffective CM that Goa has ever had,” Sherlekar said.
