PANAJI: Students of Carmel College bagged top honours at an inter-collegiate competition organised by Anyay Rahit Zindagi (ARZ) on the theme “Strengthening Communities, Preventing Trafficking” held on 30 July at Sanskruti Bhavan, Panaji.
The Department of Psychology, in collaboration with Abhivyakti, the cultural club of the Department of Konkani, presented a street play titled “Shhhhhh…Desh Needla.” Guided by Assistant Professor Vishwapratap Pawar, the 10-minute act depicted the harsh realities of human trafficking. The performance won first place, with judges praising the team for powerfully engaging the audience.
In another initiative under the same competition, Psychology students conducted a clothes collection drive on campus from 14 to 26 July, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Faye Pinto. The drive collected 672 kilograms of clothes, which were donated to the POTI Project to aid ARZ’s upcycling efforts for survivors of trafficking. This effort too secured first place, with judges lauding the students’ commitment and social responsibility.
Both activities reflected the students’ creativity and civic spirit, highlighting how education and empathy can work together to inspire community change.
