Popular stage and film artist, and a practicing psychiatrist in Goa, Dr Meenacshi Martins will be awarded Bimb Asturi Puraskar 2023. The award consisting of Rs 25,000, memento, shawl and citation will be given on April 7. Dr Martins is the third achieving woman to receive this award. The previous awardees were Dr Pramod Salgaocar and Prof Prashanti Talpankar.
Dr Martins has to her credit films like Gauri, You cannot give reason, Coffin maker, The letters, Aashray, Jackpot, Rani Durgavati, O Maria, In search of mother, Nacho mia kumpasar, Enemy, Haav tu, tu haav, Uday, Premsutra, A rainy day and Kalapor. She has played important roles in television serials like Jaban sambhal ke, Jamin Aasman, Reporter, Hum Mumbai nahi jayenge, Dillagi, Shadiya, Rajani, Vyomkesh Bakshi, Drushyant. The Marathi and Konkani plays that she played important characters are Lokakatha 78, Andhar yatra, Baki itihas, Vasantdaah among others. A social worker, Dr Meenacshi has also adorned various government and semi-government positions to give justice to the needy. She has also worked in the Red Cross Society and Goa State Women’s Commission.
