Drishti lifesavers who rescued 10 Vasco fishermen off the Chapora River and Vagator beach on August 12 were felicitated by State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida in the presence of Parish Priest of St Andrew's Church on Wednesday. The lifesavers involved in the rescue mission were Amit Mahale and Gaurish Mote (Morjim), Sachin Naik and Yashwant Kurle (Vagator), Vinod Salelkar and Divakar Desai (Calangute), Mahesh Gaonkar and Mangesh Gawas (Baga), Tushar Kharade, Shantaram Rane, Nikeel Tandel and Vithal Tandel (Mandrem), Rudresh Mahale and Balkrishna Kalangutkar (Vagator beach response) and Sandeep Mapankar and Deepak Gadekar (Arambol). On August 12, a fishing boat capsized off the coast of Chapora and in a coordinated rescue operation at Vagator, 7 lifesaving teams comprising 17 lifesavers on jetskis responded from beaches as far as Baga and Calangute, saving the lives of the 10 fishermen.
