Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida on Wednesday said the new Vasco fire station building will be constructed through the PWD at a cost of Rs 14 crore and will be completed in 18 months.
Almeida was speaking to reporters after laying the foundation stone for the long pending project in the presence of BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Vasco BJP Block President Deepak Naik and Director of Fire and Emergency Services Ashok Menon.
"Vasco is more of an industrial area and the new Vasco fire station building is extremely important. I request Menon to upgrade equipment at the fire station and also have a vehicle with a high-rise ladder to tackle emergencies in buildings as well," said Almeida.
The MLA commended Menon for following up on the need for a new fire station building at Vasco for a very long time.
The old fire station was demolished as it was old and considered unsafe. The present Vasco fire station is located in a one-room structure, making it difficult for personnel to operate a control room and have space for equipment.
Almeida said he was relying on God and the government on the early completion of the new Vasco fire station building.
He was responding to a query by reporters on how confident was he about the completion of the fire station building project while the adjoining Vasco KTC bus stand project taken up by him was pending for 10 years.
“Prayers are the answers to overcome any obstacles. Fire officials have already carried out religious services and prayers two days ago prior to this function. This time round, we have the support of God and the Government as well. I can safely say the project will be completed on time and I can take the risk, failing which the people are at liberty to blame me,” said Almeida.
