Fr Selvaraj is new bishop of Port Blair Diocese

Fr Vishuvasam Selvaraj has been appointed the Bishop of Port Blair Diocese, comprising the Andaman & Nicobar Islands by Pope Francis, according to official communication from the Vatican made public on Tuesday.

Fr Selvaraj takes over from his predecessor Rev Bishop Alex Dias, SFX, a member of the Society of Pilar, Goa who was the Bishop of the distant and difficult Island-Diocese of Port Blair for 34 long years. Fr Selvaraj is a member of the Diocesan Clergy of the Diocese of Port Blair. He was ordained a priest at Mayabunder, North Andamans on the 8th of May, 1994. 

He has held several offices in the Diocese of Port Blair, like the offices of Parish Priest, Chaplain of the Tamil Community of the Diocese of Port Blair, Director of Social Works and Projects of the Diocese and Financial Administrator.

Seven dead, Covid positivity at 5.54%

PANAJI Goa recorded seven Covid deaths on Monday and 138 new cases. The cumulative death toll now stands at 3046. However, for what could pave the way for a few relaxations, the positivity rate climbed down to 5.54 per cent.
