Goa Konkani Akademi has paid homage to Basti Vaman Shenoy, founder of World Konkani Centre, Mangalore. Basti Vaman Shenoy’s demise has created a void in the Konkani world, stated Arun Sakhardande, president, Goa Konkani Akademi. Popularly known as Vishwa Konkani Sardar, Basti Vaman Shenoy’s contribution to Konkani is great. He established the World Konkani Centre at Mangalore and tried to bring all Konkani speaking communities under one single banner. He was the president of Konkani Bhasha and Sanskruti Pratisthan for a long time. It was because of his efforts that in Mangalore, Konkani got the honour of being the third language. Basti initiated various projects on behalf of the World Konkani Centre, including educational scholarships for Konkani-speaking youth, publication of Konkani books, literary meets and conferences. “Bastimam will long be remembered,” stated Sakhardande.
