CANACONA: The Goa athletic team began their West zone championship campaign by clinching eight medals on the first day in Jodhpur-Rajasthan on Tuesday.
Ayaan Soares clinched gold in the U-20 girls 800m triathlon while Chandan Gosh also secured gold in the U-14 boys triathlon. The three silver medals were secured by Vishal Bhutte (U-20 boys 800m), Siya Naik (U-20 girls 800m) and Vandana Patel (U-20 girls 3000m) Aline Peixoto (U-14 girls 60m), Chandan Gosh (U-14 boys 60m) and Agneesh Prabhu Desai (U-20 boys 100m) settled for bronze medals.
Six states participating in the championship which include Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, & Goa.
The Goa contingent is made up of 35 athletes of which 18 girls and 17 boys will participate in the U-14, U-16, U-18 and U-20 categories. Coaches Digamber Narvekar & Snehal Parwar SAG Athletic Coaches along with managers Gangaram Lambor & Sonali Shetyekar have accompanied the state team.
