MARGAO: Guirdolim Club got the better of Nuvem SC 3-1 to move to the quarter-finals of the Navelim Villagers Union trophy, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Vitorino Fernandes of Guirdolim Club was the star of the match with his dribling and shooting power while Inacio Colaco gave his best to Nuvem SC.
Melvin Fernandes of Nuvem missed a chance to score in the fourth minute than Inacio Colaco of Nuvem shot wide in the ninth minute. Guirdolim's Gale D'Costa power-packed shot hit the Nuvem cross bar and went out of play in the 20th minute.
Valentino Carvalho scored the first goal of the match with a placement shot in the 19th minute.
As the match progressed in the second half Guirdolim netted two more goals through Vitoriono Fernandes in the 48th and 50th minutes respectively.While Inacio Colaco pulled a goal back for Nuvem in the 52nd minute.
Earlier, Sarmenti D'Silva, ex-player of Mafatlal SC, Mumbai represented Santosh trophy once declared the tournament open and later presented the man of the match award to Vitoriono Fernandes of Guirdolim Club.
