Navelim Villagers Union beat host Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim by a solitary goal to enter the semi-finals of 13th Wilred Leisure football tournament, organised by Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim and played at DYSA ground, Curtorim, on Saturday.
The match started on slow pace and both teams had equal chance in first quarter of the match but Navelim created chances and scored the first goal in 18th minute through Prestly Gomes with a placement shot and before half time Milagres Fernandes of Wilred Leisure had chance to equalise but failed to hit the target.
Changing over, Wilred Leisure Joy Hilario's powerful shoot punched away by Navelim goalkeeper Jeet Gupta in the 44th minute. Soon after Navelim Velington D'Silva header missed the target by whiskers. In the last quarter, Wilred Leisure tried to find equaliser but their shots flew over the Navelim cross bar on many times, and Navelim sealed the fate of host Wilred Leisure and will now meet Davorlim Sports Club in semifinal .
Navelim villagers Union Velington D'Silva was awarded man of the match for his outstanding performance.
