A special meeting has been convened on May 26 at 3.30 pm to elect the new chairperson of the Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC). Nominations will be accepted on Wednesday and while SMC Vice-Chairperson Rajesh Sawal is expected to file his nomination on behalf of the ‘Together for Sakhali’ panel, it is unclear who will submit a nomination on behalf of the BJP group. The post has fallen vacant following the resignation of Raya Parsekar and the SMC is presently headed by SMC Vice-Chairperson Rajesh Sawal. Deputy Collector Deepak Vaingankar will be the presiding officer at the meeting.
