Street Providence Trust, an NGO based in Sangolda, has been working tirelessly since April 2020 when the Covid pandemic broke out to make basic necessities a reality for hundreds of needy people in Goa. Every form of relief was provided by way of fresh food, potable water, medicines, ambulance service etc. As the pandemic continued and the second wave was upon us, many were facing starvation and hunger.
The NGO with Donald Fernandes at the helm rose to the occasion once again to help these marginalized people. Volunteers across Goa identified 1,400 most needy families and 250 families living with HIV +ve members, the NGO stated in a press release.
"It was decided to help the families with groceries. The kit contained 9 kgs of cereals & pulses, cooking oil, salt, sugar and tea powder -- each kit valued at Rs 900 including packaging and transportation. Ttotalledaled up to over Rs 15,00,000 a month, a huge sum for a young organisation."
“We approached a Philanthropic Foundation who supported us financially for the purchase of dry rations for the months of May-June-July-2021 for 1,250 families each month for three months,” the NGO stated.
