While Covid-negative certificates have been made mandatory for those entering the State, the sarpanch of Keri-Sattari has claimed that there has been no check on Covid-negative certificates on those entering his border village through other routes.
At present, police and teams from other departments are posted at the Keri border check post along the Goa-Belagavi highway, where checks are in place to verify the Covid-negative certificates of those arriving in the State.
Keri Panchayat Sarpanch Daud Sayed has claimed that there are no such checks on people travelling from Maharashtra to Goa via the Virdi-Keri route.
“The government should pay serious attention to this matter and set up a check post on the Virdi road, else authorities will be held responsible if there is any rise in Covid cases in Keri village,” warned Sayed.
According to Sayed, Virdi village in Sindhudurg taluka of Maharashtra is shares a common border with Keri village in Sattari taluka.
“At present, there is no police patrolling along this Virdi-Keri road despite our demands to have this road blocked. Since the last few days, people from Maharashtra have been using this route to enter Goa and no one knows if they have Covid-negative certificates or not,” said Sayed.
