As many as 1,977 taxi operators have fitted digital fare meters so far, while 3,162 taxi operators have booked for failing to fit digital meters in the last four months.
Stating this in the recent assembly, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said the government has started the process of fitting digital fare meters from May 20, despite opposition from the taxi operator association.
Presently, the digital meters are being fitted at eight places in the State.
Rosemerta Autotech Pvt and Securinex Center have been given the contract to fit digital fare meters at 4 places each.
The transport minister said all fitted meters are in working condition.
