Two persons have been booked on charges of discharging sewage in Socorro, which has posed a serious threat to public health.
Mapusa Deputy Collector Vasant Dabholker filed a complaint on Friday stating that two persons, Basavraj Harijan and Gopal Harijan, had illegally discharged sewage on property belonging to the Serula communidade and other locals by using five tankers.
The complaint further stated that the discharged sewage further gushed down into adjoining properties and residential areas. This has created a grave threat to the public health of residents and surrounding areas, as the contaminated water was seeping underground, which is likely to pollute groundwatersources and spread infectious diseases dangerous to life.
Acting on the complaint, Porvorim police have booked the two accused, and PSI Pratik Tulaskar is investigating the case.
