24 hrs after Raut inducted, cracks emerge in Vasco Cong

GPCC chief urged to have induction after consulting block

VASCO

Less than 24 hours after former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Nandadeep Raut was inducted into the Congress, cracks began to emerge within the party in Vasco.

The Vasco Block Congress office bearers have asked GPCC President Girsh Chodankar to carry out induction with consultation of the block president.

A large number of block congress supporters on Monday evening marched in protest from the Vasco Congress block office to Navelkar building in Mangor, claiming that the facts and figures of supporters were not accurate.

A visibly upset Vasco Block General Secretary Ramus Barretto told reporters that it was Vasco Block President Ularico Rodrigues who had kept the party alive in Vasco.

"I was neither aware nor consulted in this plan. The figure of supporters that joined along with Raut is not correct. There were hardly around 300-500 people and some of them were from Dabolim, Mormugao and even outside cities like Margao, etc.”

“We already have a block office in Vasco and why should the induction not have been done here? We have selflessly worked for the Congress and should we have not been consulted before any induction? Though we welcome people to the party, there has to be a system for such an induction," asked Barretto.

Block Vice President Kashinath Yadav said the party had become stronger and many people were likely to join the Congress.

"Where have they been all these years and have they worked for the party? Are they joining to work for the party and strengthen it or with a plain intention to get a ticket for assembly elections?”

“Those joining the party must work for the party first and then look for a ticket. We have to also see if the person joining the Congress will stand with the party or jump to other parties after winning elections," said Yadav.
