VASCO
Former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Nandadeep Raut joined the Congress party formally along with hundreds of supporters late Sunday evening.
At a function in the port town, Raut hit out at BJP and said there was no development in Vasco since the last ten years.
"I have joined the party with around 1,500 supporters because people are tired and frustrated with BJP. Vascokars got a BJP MLA elected twice and even got a BJP MP elected once, but all development that they have claimed is merely repairs of drainage and gutters and laying of pavers. They have failed as legislators and have ditched the people and many important projects are incomplete and they have not promoted beaches which could have generated revenue,” said Raut.
"We know that only Congress can bring in development in Vasco,” he added.
On the occasion, Raut launched an emergency helpline and a vehicle for those in need of emergency medical assistance or to be moved to hospitals.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar said Vasco was always a congress stronghold.
"We always had a strong base but we made some mistakes, took late decisions or delayed in reaching out to people and this constituency went out of our hands.” Chodankar said.
