OLD GOA
In a shocking incident, a 5-year-old child drowned in a water-filled cement pit at a under construction site at Bainguinim-Old Goa.
According to information, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the child apparently strayed from the room where their family was staying. At that time, the parents of the child were working at another construction site.
“Later, the child was found drowned in the water-filled pit at the site where the construction is currently abandoned,” one of the workers informed The Goan, while further adding that her son and the deceased child used to often play with each other.
“But on the dreadful day, my son informed that the deceased child did not come to play with him,” the worker further stated.
When The Goan visited the area, it was observed that the site where the incident occurred is abandoned with bush growth seen all around and also it is away from the temporary room where the child was staying with the parents.
When questioned by The Goan on how the child ended up in that place, the workers said that they do not have a clue.
Meanwhile, the contractor, Rajesh Patil, has been arrested under Section 304A of IPC for negligence leading to the death of the child.
The post-mortem of the child was conducted, and the viscera preserved for further analysis.
Old Goa PSI Laureen Sequeira is conducting further investigations in the matter.
