Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik on Saturday handed over four hearse vans and four garbage pickup vehicles to various panchayats in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Naik handed over hearse vans to Colvale, Taleigao, Vironda and Socorro panchayats and garbage pickups to Bhirnoda, Pale-Cothambi, Kudnem and Sangolda panchayats at a cost of Rs 45 lakh under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
“Due to the Covid pandemic, the MPLAD scheme is currently suspended. Funds which were allocated earlier have been used for these vehicles,” said Naik.
Naik said these vehicles would be of great help to the panchayats.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant lauded Naik for judiciously using the MPLAD funds.
