MAPUSA
The AAP on Saturday staged a bike rally to highlight the bad stretch of the highway between Porvorim and Mapusa.
The rally began at the Khapareshwar Temple in Porvorim and culminated with prayers at the Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa. Aam Aadmi Party's State Convenor Adv. Amit Palekar, MLA Venzy Viegas, leader Valmiki Nayak, Krishna Parab and others were present at the rally.
Stating that roads in the state are in a bad condition and have caused immense suffering to motorists and commuters, Palekar claimed that ministers and ruling MLAs who travel on the same stretch of the highway are indifferent to the plight of ordinary people.
“This bike rally was an attempt to draw the attention of the sleeping BJP government to the poor condition of roads. Due to this campaign launched by the AAP, the government has started filling up potholes on the roads. The government should ensure that all the roads in the State are in motorable condition before Ganesh Chaturthi,” said Palekar.
Stating that crores of rupees had been approved for the repair of this stretch of highway, Palekar sought to know where this money had gone.
“The PWD needs to be held accountable and cases should be registered against the engineers,” he said.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said he got to experience the bad stretch of road while riding on two-wheeler between Porvorim and Mapusa.
