Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority’s order to a beach resort at Sernabatim-Colva to demolish the retaining wall along the beach has thrown up a question “ what if the owner does not comply with the Authority’s order.
In the event the owner does not comply, the GCZMA Director has directed the Deputy Collector, Salcete to demolish the wall within 30 days after the issuance of the order.
Questions are raised in official circles whether the office of the Deputy Collector will execute the GCZMA demolition order when a host of demolition orders passed by the Authority and upheld by the Courts, including the Country’s Apex Court and the National Green Tribunal are awaiting execution.
In fact, many a demolition order along Salcete coastal belt has been awaiting execution on the lame excuse by the PWD that it does not have wherewithal or specialized machinery to bring down multi-storied buildings in the CRZ areas.
It was only after the High Court recently took serious cognizance of the officials not executing the demolition orders that the South Goa district Collector Asvin Chandru issued a circular to the deputy Collectors to execute all demolition orders without fail.
