The artistes' collective formed to protest the controversial and allegedly sub-par renovation of the Kala Academy -- Kala Rakhonn Mandd -- has upped the ante and roped in the Charles Correa Foundation (CCF) to make a presentation on the State of the iconic art and culture space.
Noted architect, Tanvi Karia, who is convener of the CCF, will make the presentation which will analyse damage that plagued the entire Kala Academy complex over the last two decades beginning with the hosting of the first International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for the first time in Goa in 2004.
Karia will make the presentation at a meeting arranged by the Kala Rakhonn Mandd at the Gomant Vidya Niketan in Margao, at its Fomento Amphitheatre on Friday at 5 pm. The presentation will be followed by a discussion on the subject.
AAP leader, Cecille Rodrigues, herself a professional dance instructor and choreographer, has appealed to Goa's artistes, writers, musicians, painters, folk artists and art enthusiasts to participate and gain an understanding of the issue.
Rodrigues, who is the secretary of Kala Rakhonn Mandd, has also extended an invite to all the 40 legislators to also attend the presentation and support their demand for a 'White Paper' on Kala Academy at the upcoming monsoon session of the Goa legislature slated to begin on July 15.
The Kala Rakhonn Mandd, formed earlier last week with artists from across Goa joining hands, kicked off their campaign with a protest infront of the Kala Academy and performed a traditional ‘Garane’.
They are demanding a white paper on the renovation project and a joint meeting with the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude, to discuss the issues involved and have vowed to spread their agitation across the State.
