Budget session on schedule from tomorrow, says CM

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will be held as per schedule from Wednesday March 24 to April 16 even as the joint opposition led by its leader Digambar Kamat is demanding deferring it and the budget due to the municipal polls.

"Budget announcements do not come under the purview of Model Code of Conduct. I have confirmed it,” Sawant said.

The chief minister is slated to present the budget for 2021-22 on Wednesday itself. It will be the last budget of the Assembly's current term as polls are due in February-March 2022.

The Kamat-led Opposition is demanding that the session be curtailed to two days with a vote-on-account taken now, and re-convening it post the municipal election and results of the remaining five municipalities.
