BJP takes control of Bicholim Municipal Council

The BJP took control of the Bicholim Municipal council (BMC) by winning nine of the 14 seats and extended its tally when one independent councillor pledged his support to the party.

The former councillors who got defeated included Gurudatt Pal, Chaitanya Teli and Nissar Shaikh, while the winning candidates include six women, including two advocates.

Kundan Falari won by the highest margin of 392 votes, while candidates in Wards 3 and 6 won by a slim margin. Ward 5 Nilesh Tople, who has won as an independent candidate, extended its support to BJP.

Speaker Rajesh Patekar, BJP state convener Dayanand Sopte and BJP Bicholim Block President Vallabh Salkar congratulated the BJP panel on their success at the BMC polls.

The results at the BMC elections were:

Ward 1: Vijaykumar Natekar of BJP panel (215) defeated Pravin Sawant (139). Ward 2: Deepa Shirgaonkar of BJP panel (346) defeated Anita Harmalkar (205). Ward 3: Sukhada Teli of Naresh Sawal panel (340) defeated Archana Gaikwad (332). Ward 4: Deepa Pal of BJP panel (257) defeated Rakshanda Pal (153).

Ward 5: Nilesh Tople (528) defeated former councillor Gurudatt Pal (257). Ward 6: Adv. Ranjana Vaingankar of Naresh Sawal panel (240) defeated former councillor Chaitaya Teli (235). Ward 7: Aniket Chanekar of BJP panel (349) defeated Jitendra Gauthankar (216 votes). Ward 8: Adv. Aparna Fogueri of Naresh Sawal panel (539) defeated Sonali Birje (322). Ward 9: Riaz Beg of BJP panel (364) defeated former councillor Nisar Shaikh (225). Ward 10: Pandurang Korgaonkar of Bicholim Vision panel headed by Shetye brothers (278) defeated Tarak Korgaonkar (215).

Ward 11: Rajaram Gaonkar of BJP panel (440) defeated Rahul Dhond (327). Ward 12: Tanuja Gaonkar of BJP panel (328) defeated Ashirwad Mandrekar (249). Ward 13: Pundalik Falari of BJP panel (641) defeated Pradosh Amonkar (249) and Ward 14: Sudan Govekar of BJP panel (452) defeated Rohan Shirodkar (318) .
