Pernem police arrested two persons after conducting a narcotics raid and seizing cannabis plants, Ganja and Charas worth Rs 20 lakh at Korgao-Pernem.
This is the sixth raid on a cannabis plantation at Pernem in the last two months.
According to reports, Pernem PI Jivba Dalvi had collected intelligence regarding drug activities at Korgao. Accordingly, a watch was being maintained for a few days.
On Monday, a raid was conducted by a Pernem police team at a house in Korgao and Ganja worth Rs 8,600, Charas worth Rs 5.6 lakh and Cannabis plants worth Rs 14 lakh were seized during the raid.
During the raid, police found that a favourable environment and atmosphere was created to cultivate cannabis in the cultivation room and they included tube lights, temperature moderating machines and exhaust fans.
Two persons, Larsen Richard (34) of Bandra-Mumbai and Rene Neil Santan D’Souza (44) of Korgao-Pernem have been arrested under Sections 20(b)(ii)(A), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 20(a) R/w section 29 of NDPS Act.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of SDPO Gajanan Prabhudesai and SP Shobit Saxena.
