Margao MLA and Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat has come the scanner after a photograph showing him with accused Ayub Shiek did the rounds on the social media on Sunday, with people accusing anti-social elements from the areas such as Fakirbandh have been emboldened to launch attack on innocent people due the patronage extended by the politicians.
The Margao MLA, however, begged to differ. “How can someone drag me in the assault case just because the accused was seen in the photograph with me”, Kamat countered.
When it was pointed out to him that people have alleged that the main accused Ayub is a resident of the migrant-inhabited Fakirbandh, which has been his vote bank, Kamat shot back “there can be 100 persons who may support me or pose for a photograph with me. But, can I be held responsible in situations when they are involved in anti-social activities”.
The Margao MLA pointed out that the Margao police have initiated strict action against the accused by invoking the provision of attempt to murder. “I have not interfered in any way. The police is doing their job. They have arrested the duo for attempt to murder”, he said, while saying he has nothing to do with the anti-social elements.
