'Chalo Canacona Railway station' march on Dec 15

Resumption of train halts at station urged

CANACONA

Accusing railway authorities of ignoring their rightful pleas and exhibiting indifference to railway travellers, Canconcars are planning to march to the Canacona Konkan Railway Station on December 15 to demand immediate resumption of train halts at the station.

“We pleaded with the Railway and other authorities to halt Express Trains/Long Distance Trains at Canacona Railway Station to facilitate easy railway travel for Canaconcars, but our demands have, so far, had fallen on deaf ears. Railway authorities have shown scant or no respect for our representations, for our feelings', stated a social post on the failure of railway authorities to resume trains halts at Canacona KRC Station.

Incidentally, various people under different platforms had made similar representations to the railway authorities including the Forum For Senior Citizens of Canacona.

Swabhimani Jagruth Canconcars has now appealed for all Canaconcars to come together and jointly march to Canacona Railway Station on December 15 at 10.30 am to awaken Railway authorities towards their plight and to force them to halt express/long distance trains at Canacona Railway Station for the sake of Canaconcars and visitors to touristic locations in the taluka

According to sources, the Vision and Mission Progressive Canacona has also appealed to the public to participate in the morcha at Canacona Railway Station on Thursday.

It may be recalled that during and since the Covid lockdown, KRC has totally withdrawn train halts as part of Zero Based Time Table on Konkan Railway, which included halts of Netravati Express, Magsyagandha Express and Gandhidham-Nagarcoil Express at Canacona KRC Station as per the Ministry of Railways directives, even after these trains were resumed on the route.

Simultaneously, the Canacona Station train tickets quota was also withdrawn and off late, even the Computerised Railway Reservation Centre at Canacona Post Office has stopped operations.

In a response to the pleas, the KRC Mumbai Office claimed that halts for trains at any station is under the purview of the Railway Board.
