Cong urges EC to be transparent in Zilla seat quota rotation

PANAJI

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao on Saturday demanded that the State Election Commission maintain transparency in the process of rotation of reservation of seats for the Zilla Panchayat elections due later this year.

"We should not be forced to go to court like in the case of reservations for municipal elections," Alemao said, even as he demanded that the scheme of reservations be declared well in advance.

Alemao who was flanked by GPCC president Amit Patkar was addressing the media after the party held a training sessions for its 'booth level agents in preparation for the ZP polls.

Alemao chaired the meeting of the booth-level agents where Patkar and other leaders guided the proceedings.

"The ZP election is likely to be held in December and we have learnt that there will be only 50 constituencies for this as before," Alemao said and alleged that the scheme of reservations and rotation is being chalked out at the Chief Minister’s office where ministers, MLAs and ex-MLAs of the party are invited and their views are taken.

"Accordingly the reservation will be done," he alleged, adding that the BJP wants to win elections by fraud much the same way it has done in other States as is being exposed by their party leader Rahul Gandhi through the 'Vote Chori' campaign.

Patkar said all political parties should set aside political differences and support the Congress in its 'vote chori' campaign for a transparent election process , Patkar said.

"We held a meeting with all our BLAs to inform them about the revision of voter lists and explained the process to them," Patkar said.
