Stung by demands of Cansaulim Sarpanch Jose Maria Furtado and Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar seeking the resignation of Cortalim BJP MLA Alina Saldanha, the Cortalim BJP Mandal hit back by stating that Saldanha had taken development works worth over Rs 100 crore in Cortalim constituency.
Addressing a news conference, Cortalim BJP Mandal General Secretary Achut Naik said every person has the right to object to a project if it was not good for the people of the constituency. "We salute her that despite being in power she has stood by the people and raised her voice against the government regarding the double-tracking of railways," said Naik.
Naik said that Saldanha had taken up development work worth over Rs 100 crore in Cortalim constituency. "Besides these developmental works, many more projects are in the pipeline and while some have been tendered, some others are awaiting clearances from the government,” he said.
“As far as the Zuarinagar market is concerned, the work had begun but after we realised there was not enough place, Saldanha has taken more land from the Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited. However, with the new conditions, the file has been put before the MPDA and awaits a NOC from the Navy.
“Secondly, the work on Kala Bhavan will be taken up and the project will be also completed very soon," said Naik.
Others present at the news conference included Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira and other panch members of Cortalim and Sancoale Panchayats.
