Xeldem Zilla panchayat member Sidharth Gauns Desai has been officially declared as the new vice-chairperson of the South Goa Zilla panchayat.
Returning officer, Gaurish Sankhwalkar declared Sidharth elected unopposed to the post, left vacant after the resignation by outgoing vice-Chairperson Kushali Velip.
After his election, Sidharth profusely thanked the BJP leadership for reposing their trust in him and getting him elected to the post. He thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, party president MP Sadanand Tanavade, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and the party’s core team, besides the Zilla panchayat members for placing their trust in him and getting him elected unopposed.
To a question on his plan, Sidharth said the South Goa zilla panchayat will work as a team to bring about development in all the constituencies. “Outgoing ZP chief Suvarna Tendulkar, incumbent Chairperson Sanjana Velip and the members have been working together for the good of the people. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has provided huge funds for the Zilla Panchayats and it is the responsibility of the members to take the development works to the grass root level,” he said.
With just a year to go for the Zilla Panchayat polls, the newly-elected South Goa vice-Chairperson hoped the ZP will receive more funds in the next one year to usher in the development projects.
